Single leaf fragment in good condition. Part of the liturgical and musical contents are lost because the borders of the page were trimmed. Two horizontal folds in the middle and in the lower part of the fragment; a vertical cut at the bottom of the page has been sewn; some wrinkles.
The original foliation is lost but there is a reference to page "cxxvi", where it was possible to read the Offertory "Angelus Domini".
Size: 465 x 290 mm. Text area: one column of 350 x 240 mm. 12 lines, respectively 6 for text, 6 for notation.
Type of script:
Type of notation:
Aquitanian (Portuguese variety)
Champ initial "M" for the Introit "Misericordia Domini"; very simple pen-flourished intials in red and blue; a drôlerie at the starting of the Alleluia verse "In die". Display script in red, text and notation in black. The Aquitanian notation, Portuguese variety, is on red line. The significative letters in red ink were adjoined to the neumes to allow the identification of the pitch of the red line.
Inscriptions and marks:
Recto right vertical side: "176" written in red ink by a modern hand; "Tombo de Bustello [...]" written by a more ancient hand; probably contemporary is the inscription "Bustello"; "Caixa 240, n° 5" was written by a modern hand in blue ink.
Verso left vertical side: "[...] decet [...] iudicio"; lower is another latin annotation but part of the text was cut-off.
P. Avelino de Jesus da Costa referes to this fragment as: "Caixa 240, 18 – Número 5 – Tombo de S. Mamede de Bustelo, 1540".
