P-BRad Pasta 034
Aquitanian neumatic notation tending towards square and rectangular forms, written on a single red line. The line is slightly undulated rather than perfectly straight. There is no strict vertical alignment between text and notation. The scribe does not employ liquescent neumes or the custos.
Capital letters are alternately painted in blue and red, consistently ornamented. The initial M of the introit Meditabo is distinguished by its larger size and more elaborate decoration.
In the lower margin of the recto, in a later hand: Domine dominus noster quam admirabile est (the opening of Psalm 8).
In the left margin of the verso, in pencil: Caixa 285, nº 8; and in a later hand (possibly 16th century): Tombo (...) de Martinho de Outeiro.
São Martinho de Outeiro Maior (present-day Outeiro Maior) was a village belonging to the monastery of São Simão da Junqueira, under the municipality of Barcelos until 1836.
The folio is well preserved, although some of the contents are missing due to the trimming of the upper edge. There are creases at the bottom right of Ar (left of Av) and another in the centre of the folio, horizontally. This fold shows that the folio has been folded for many years. The consequences of this fold are particularly noticeable in Av, affecting the legibility of the offertory. Around this fold, the folio is dirtier. In general, the content is easily legible.
Two columns of 37 lines each, though additional lines were likely lost with the trimmed upper edge. The outer column is wider than the inner margin formed by the fold. The ruling lines, especially the verticals, are uneven.
Original foliation is missing, probably removed when the upper margin was trimmed.
Mode identification takes into account the position of the tonic relative to the dry-point line, psalmodic intonations, melodic range and formulas.
