The liturgical contents of this bifolium begins with the first nocturn for the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist(April 25), preceded by a common chant for an apostle or evangelist in the recto and verso of the first page (A). On the second page (B) chants for the 4th Sunday after Easter are found.

Description of the notation

Red line for notation, small/medium-sized neumes. No custodes. The scribe put special care in placing the neumes in the notational space. Presence of many liquescent neumes. Features a special symbol for the porrectus praepunctis.

Decoration

Red and black initials with very simple filigree for the beginning of the chants, simpler initials for the verses in brown ink. Rubrics in red, or brown ink boxed in red ink.

Inscriptions

This fragment shows many inscriptions.

On the Ar two later inscriptions in pencil and pen read "Matricula 1559" on the top side of the folio.

On the Av many inscriptions in brown ink, almost unreadable.

On the Bv folio the top right inscription in red pencil read the number 29. On the left margin of the folio another inscription in brown ink, almost unreadable.

 

 

Material
Condition of document

Good. Almost completely readable. Only few spots due to humidity and usage. The borders of the fragment were folded to fit the size of the book being covered. Folio A is partially cut with no loss of contents.

Page layout

Fully notated fragment with ten lines in a single column of text alternated with musical notation.

Bifolium without pagination.
