Contents

The liturgical contents of this fragmentary bifolio include texts for the Octave of St. Martin (incomplete) on fol. Ar, continue with chants for the feast of St. Caecilia (first Matins responsory on fol. Av; since the following chants are missing together with other material, only the final chants of the Office appear on fol. Br) and the initial part of the St. Clemens liturgy on the remaining of fol. B.

Type of script
Type of notation
Description of the notation

Red line for notation, medium-sized neumes. No custodes. The scribe put special care in placing the neumes in the notational space.

Decoration

Red and blue initials with filigree for the beginning of the chants, simpler initials for the verses in brown ink. Rubrics in red.

Inscriptions

Verso: four later inscriptions in different hands. The two earlier inscriptions, written upside down at the lower margin, read “Tombo de Bo...?” and an undeciphered phrase followed by the letter “B.” Two modern inscriptions in pencil: “29” (in red) at the upper left, and “Caixa 250 nº 28” at the lower left.

Material
Condition of document

Good. Bifolio fragment, trimmed at the upper and right edges of the former inner-recto/outer-verso leaf, resulting in the complete loss of one column of text. Some loss of content. Surface shows stains and dirt, mainly on the verso, but the text remains legible. Two small holes near the centre of the bifolio and a parchment patch at the lower centre, probably applied to reinforce the support.

Page layout

Partially notated fragment with 2 columns per page of both text without notation and with notation. The music lines are alternated with text lines.

Foliation/Pagination

Bifolium. Bv-Ar, Av-Br.

Central bifolium, the content is in order and starts liturgically on Ar (Octava Martini, incomplete); it continues on Av, Br and Bv with Ceciliae (incomplete) and Clementis (without the end).
