Description of the notation

Small size neumes. The axis of the notation is slightly slanted to the right and the square puncta are not vertically piled one above the other. Custodes. Rare lozenges found as part of descending neume patterns. In the responsories ‘In omnibus’ Cantus ID 006920 and ‘Tribularer’ Cantus ID 007778 the lozenge is purposefully used to convey semitonal information. The lozenge is not used consistently in these two chants and it is found exclusively in descending neume patterns.

Condition of document

This central bifolium contains chants for Matins for Dom. 1 Quadragesimae. Up to this date, the more similar list of chants for the same feast has been found in P-BRs Ms. 32 (see http://pemdatabase.eu/musical-item/5009).
The Responsory Verse Cantus ID number 006600a.1 seems to be peculiar to Portuguese sources representative of the Braga liturgical use; indeed, so far it has been found only in these other two sources: P-BRs Ms. 32 fol. 136v and P-BRs Fragment 1, verso.
