Small size the neumes, the difference between a lozenge and a more or less square punctum is usually clearly defined. Being the square puncta similar to parallelograms, the axis of the notation is slightly slanted to the right. The lozenge is not used consistently, occasionally it is possible to identify the mode of the chants (see the Cantus Index to the right) but in many occasions this cannot be done either for the poor conditions of the fragment or for the lack of lozenges. When present, the lozenge is written as part of compound neumes (usually descending) and only rarely found in isolation on a single syllable. Custodes written where needed.
Two columns.
